The Department of Housing, Local Government and Heritage (DHLGH) is a government body which oversees the conservation, preservation, protection and presentation of Ireland’s heritage and cultural assets. Within the Department the National Parks and Wildlife Service (NPWS) manages the State’s nature conservation responsibilities under national and European law, including the designation and protection of Natura 2000 sites.
The NPWS will contribute to the project in terms of the conservation, monitoring (hydrology, greenhouse gas and vegetation) and public awareness actions with the objective to restore over 2,900 hectares of Irish raised bogs, mainly Natura 2000 sites and nationally designated heritage areas.
