Some of the Peatlands and People team spent a cold but enjoyable day out visiting peatlands. Project partner Jonathan Derham of the EPA took some lovely photos showing bogs are beautiful even on a grey day in Winter! There is so much diversity to be found on the bog, including some lovely Devils Matchsticks (Cladonia floerkeana), the Heath Star Moss (Campylopus introflexus), "pixie-cup" lichen (Cladonia sp.) and Reindeer lichen (Cladonia portentosa).
The EPA are involved in the monitoring of greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions under Peatland and People. They will evaluate the impact of restoration work on reducing GHG emissions and returning peatlands to carbon storage systems. The EPA will deliver verified science which can be used to inform the carbon sequestration ambition of the project as well as national reporting under the Land Use, Land-use Change and Forestry (LULUCF) Regulation.
