The EPA has published the EPA Research Report 386: The Status of Ireland’s Climate, 2020. It tells us:
- Ireland’s climate is warmer and wetter in recent decades than previously observed.
- Carbon dioxide, methane and nitrous oxide, the main drivers of climate change, have increased steadily since 2012, a trend that is reflected globally.
- Sea level, acidity, and temperature have increased, resulting in changes in Ireland’s ocean ecosystems.
- The size of the land area covered by artificial surfaces and forest in Ireland have increased since 1990 while there is an observed decrease in wetland areas.
