Last week, Bord na Móna announced the launch of Accelerate Green 2023 at its headquarters in Boora, Co. Offaly. Accelerate Green is the first Irish accelerator dedicated to scaling companies leading the response to climate action and sustainability by developing products and services based on green innovation.

Accelerate Green is partially supported by LIFE IP Peatlands and People and acts as the economic catalyst of the project, helping businesses test and adopt ideas to further the uptake of a just transition.

Accelerate Green saw two successful cohorts complete programmes in 2022.

"Of the 17 companies who have already come through Accelerate Green, we have established a working partnership with six companies and facilitated ten to scale up, secure more funding, diversify their business and provide more climate focussed roles in the Midlands," said Tom Donnellan, CEO of Bord na Móna, the coordinating organisation of Peatlands and People.

Tom continued "This new cohort of companies just beginning the programme represent the critical pipeline of potential new enterprises operating in the sustainability space or looking to transition to become a climate solutions company, a journey we have been on ourselves since 2018."

Eight companies have been selected to take part in this year's programme, representing a diverse range of sectors and solutions to environmental issues, including electric vehicle charging, water treatment technology, single-use plastic reduction, and carbon capture technology.
